The Windows leader in mobile phone segment, Nokia is going to see a tough competition ahead.
After making an entry into the budget smartphone segment with a MediaTek processor based Xperia C, Sony might soon be launching a new Windows phone. “Sony, whose mobile unit has exclusively made smartphones powered by Google’s Android software for nearly four years, has considered launching a Windows phone as soon as mid-2014, according to a person who was involved in the talks and a person briefed about the device” says a report published in TheInformation.
Sony has been making Android devices till now. With the move not only will Sony add a new feather to its cap, but will also add new flavours to the Windows phone market. This market has been till date dominated by Nokia, who made good use of Windows and was able to establish it as a smart option in the Indian market.
This is not the only challenge for Nokia in the year 2014. Micromax known to launch budget smartphones is also readying to introduce Windows phone in the market. “We are working on a Windows phone and you might see something from us around mid of next year” said Co-founder of Micromax Rahul Sharma in an interview to Economic Times. This is the same time around which we can expect the Sony Windows smartphone.
This means we will get at least 3 windows phone manufactures for the Indian market. Competition finally seems to building up in this space!
