On August 14, 1947, Pakistan got divided from India to be a separate nation. August 15 was the day when India got freedom from 200 years of British Raj. Partition was the saddest moment for India when it was getting independence from the British. Around one crore people were displaced during the partition.

The day of India’s independence was decided to be August 15 from quite a few days.
