Mumbai: If you though that casting couches existed only in movies, here is a reality check. In startling revelations, a struggling actress has claimed that she was raped by a cameraman who promised her work in TV serials.
Ravindranath Ghosh, who worked as assistant cameraman on several family soaps, met the victim Roopa (name changed) in 2011 in Andheri.
The accused, a Goregaon resident, claimed he had contacts of several producers and would make the victim a queen in ‘saas-bahu’ dramas but she had to compromise with him.
Ghosh in his statements to police agreed to have had physical contact with t he victim.
"I did assure her a role in daily soaps and also spent more than 2 lakh paying hotel and lodge bills. It was a give-and-take relationship. It is simple in glamour world. Kuch Paane ke liye khona padta hai(you have to give away something if you have to succeed)," the accused has said in his statement.
According to the complaint lodged, Ghosh allegedly raped her 15 times from April 2012 till date.
It was a local lawyer Manoj Singh who advised the victim to file a complaint with the cops, police said.
“We will give justice to the victim and make a water tight case against the accused,” Suresh Hujband, senior PI, MIDC police station said.
