Bangalore: A head constable attached to the Sarjapur police station limits hit a motorcycle, killing two and fled the spot on Thursday. While the man riding the bike died on the spot, the pillion rider died while undergoing treatment at a hospital on Thursday afternoon. Head constable C Chandru, 52, a resident of KIADB quarters, Bommasandra, is absconding.
On Thursday, Chandru, who is suspected to be drunk at the time of the incident, was driving an SUV bearing the registration number KA-01-MA-1279. On his way to Attibele from Sarjapur passing through Billapura on Sarjapur Main Road, Chandru lost control of his vehicle and hit the motorcycle head on.
The accident happened around 11.45 am, in which rider Narayana Reddy, 45, died, while pillion rider Venkatesh, 43, was rushed to Sparsh Hospital. He succumbed to injuries around1 pm, police said. Both the deceased are residents of Billapura. Narayana Reddy owned a small provision store in Billapura gate. They were on their way to refuel the bike at the petrol bunk on Sarjapur Main Road when the accident happened, police said.
Chandru, who has been working as the head constable in Sarjapur police station for three-and-a-half years, was driving a relative's car, police said. The bodies were handed over to the families after a postmortem in Anekal Government Hospital. A case is registered in Sarjapur police station and investigation is on.

A Peenya police constable was beaten up by public in Peenya on July 12. The car, in which constable Biradar was travelling, hit a five-year-old boy injuring him. The bystanders pulled the constable out of the vehicle and beat him up. He was suspected to be inebriated.
