Patna: Stampede at 'Chhat Ghat' kills 12

Patna: At least 20 people were killed in a stampede at a Ganga Ghat during the Chhat festival celebrations on Monday. 
 
The dead include seven men and seven women, say TV reports. Many devotees are reported to be injured in the stampede that happenned at Adalatganj 'Chhat ghat' following a bridge collapse built over river Ganga.

Media reports quote police officials as saying "The shocking incident took place after a temporary bridge made of bamboo collapsed due to heavy rush of people, mainly devotees and their family members. The incident took place when people were returning after offering prayers at sunset at Adalatganj ghat."

All the devotees injured in the stampede were rushed to Patna Medical College Hospital. Bodies of the dead have also been brought to the PMCH, say reports.
