165 million tablets to sell in 2013; iPad still world leader
New Delhi: As the world gets more tech savvy and wirelessly connected to one another, the competition amongst tablet makers get more intensified, as September 9 dated IDC research shows that 117 million tablets PCs will be sold in 2012, much more than the forecasted sales volumes earlier. The forcast also states that the year 2013 shall have 165 million units of the devices sell across different markets across the world. And the highest selling amongst them all, is the iPad from Apple with an estimated 60% of the total market share.
As the alternatives get created by the day , and sales volumes increase due to new technology adapbility, the iOS competitors especially the Android and Windows based tablets are seen a growth oriented segment. In fact, Microsoft recently launched its new tablet based on the flagship operating system Windows 8. Tom Mainelli, an analyst with IDC informs, " Apple leads the market with its iPad and we expect its dominance to continue in the second half of the year. Still, we believe there is room in the market for others to find success, and new Android- and Windows-based products shipping in the coming months will give consumers plenty of buying options during the holiday season."
Earlier this year in April, Futuresource published its research report, which concluded that tablets have actually taken up the market share held by notebooks, but the hand held devices will remain a complimentary device to the traditional desktops and Mac PCs.
