Chandigarh Traffic Police upgraded website launched

Chandigarh: Director General of Police PK Srivastava on Thursday launched the revamped website of the city's traffic police at the Police Headquarters here.
The upgraded website -- www.chandigarhtrafficpolice.org -- is more interactive and has mock tests on traffic rules for people preparing to take a driving test to obtain a license. More questions have been added in the data bank and it has been made more user friendly.
Animations on "right of way" in different situations have been highlighted, besides the new design element has also been introduced.
The DGP also launched a traffic awareness YouTube channel. A traffic awareness campaign was also launched in collaboration with the family of comedian and actor, late Jaspal Bhatti, who died in a car accident in October.
On this occasion, DGP Srivastava said, “The traffic police has been very vigilant in Chandigarh. Our officers have done a very good job,” and added that the UT police is looking into the proposal made by Bhatti’s family to issue challans to people who do not wear seat belts while sitting in the back seat of the car.
Superintendent of Police (Traffic) Maneesh Chaudhary said, “At present, there are three things that we are working on -- enforcement of law by issue of more challans, enhancement of accident analysis cell and spreading awareness about traffic safety. Today we are focusing on the third aspect.”
"We are uploading the videos of different accidents on YouTube to create awareness among residents about road safety. The videos will also highlight traffic violations such as crossing red light, standing on zebra crossing, not wearing seat belts and travelling without helmet leading to accidents," he said.
He added their aim was to provide safe and secure environment to the commuters travelling on the city roads.
The Chandigarh Traffic Police awareness website was started by Harman Singh Sidhu, president of a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), ArriveSAFE. The website gets 5 lakh hits on an average every month. After its upgradation, the number is expected to go much higher.
