Chandigarh/Shimla: In a setback to yoga guru Baba Ramdev, the Himachal Pradesh Government on Friday took back a major chunk of land that was allotted to him in Solan district by the then BJP government in the state in 2010. The land was allotted to him to set up his Patanjali Yogpeeth's branch.

According to Deputy Commissioner Meera Mohanty, "The government took over the possession of the land allotted to Baba Ramdev."

The decision was made during a meeting on Tuesday presided over by state Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh where he cancelled the allotment of 96.5 bighas of land near Sadhupul in Solan. The decision to cancel the allotment was made as there were violation of statutory provisions in land allotment.

The land originally belonged to the erstwhile royal family of Patiala, to which former Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh belongs.
