Chandigarh: Popular tourist resort Manali Tuesday saw snowfall but Shimla received only snowflakes, and cold in Himachal Pradesh has intensified.

Snowfall in the upper reaches of Himachal Pradesh and Shimla, and mild rainfall in the city brought down the maximum temperature to 20.1 degrees Celsius on Tuesday.

The maximum temperature dropped by 6.3 degrees from Monday, leaving the city shivering. On Monday the city's maximum temperature was recorded at 26.4 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature was 9.3 degrees Celsius.

According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), Chandigarh, the city recorded 0.6 mm rainfall on Tuesday. Explaining the fall in temperature, Surender Paul, director, IMD, Chandigarh, said, "The temperature has fallen due to clouds and rainfall."

Predicting the weather ahead, he said, "For the next two days, the weather will remain same. After light rainfall at isolated places in the region for the next few days, the sky will get clear. But by December 17, dense fog cover will start enveloping the region during early mornings and nights."
Meanwhile, due to cloudy conditions, the night temperature was recorded two degrees above normal at 11.8 degree Celsius.
