New Delhi: Alleging that he was being ‘threatened’ on behalf of politician Amar Singh, a prosecution witness in 2008 cash-for-votes scam ‘orally’ appealed to the special court on Tueday to reject the bail of former Samajwadi party leader.
The request was turned down by the court, which advised Hasmat Ali to file a formal application instead.
Complying with the court’s order, Ali then filed a petition, which also included a request for police protection.
Special Judge Sangita Dhingra Sehgal, however, clarified that the power to grant police protection was Member Secretary of Delhi State Legal Services Authority’ prerogative and guided him to apply there.
Even earlier, the same prosecution witness had accused Amar Singh of getting him kidnapped to prevent him from deposing before the Kishore Chand Deo committee on Septrember 25, 2008.
The committee, which was formed to probe the sensational allegations, subsequently gave a clean chit to Amar Singh.
The next date for hearing in the case is scheduled on January 17.
