New Delhi: A whopping 1,30,000 people thronged the India International Trade Fair (IITF) 2012 on Sunday — perhaps the highest on a day since the event began.

The event that opened top general public on November 19 saw a maddening rush at Pragati Maidan on the first and last Sunday, according to official estimates, exceeding last year’s score of 1.16 lakh people that had visited the fair on the last Sunday, which was also the last day of the fair.

The highest turnout of visitors left little walking space especially in international stalls, cosmetic and pharmaceutical pavilion, theme pavilions and food courts. Notably, the pavilion of SAARC (South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation) member countries drew maximum crowd, according to organisers. They also added that the footfall on the previous day was close to 1 lakh.

Also, this year’s trade fair is seeing more participation from women under the theme of ‘skilling India’.
The 32nd India International Trade Fair (IITF) has drawn women from all walks of life, who have travelled from every part of the country to participate in this year’s trade fair.

Meanwhile, micro and small-scale industries have seen at least 55 per cent participation from women and one can see more women at most of the stalls at the fair, according to an organizing official.

What’s more? There are Kashmiri woolens and pure honey, dates, roasted nuts, and dried apricots from Iran; fibre quilts and bedcovers from Hong Kong as well to woo every visitor.

Meanwhile, over 6,000 exhibitors from India and foreign countries are participating in the fair, with as many as 487 exhibitors from countries like Russia, South Africa, Canada and Pakistan are showcasing their products in the IITF this season. Last time there were around 230 foreign exhibitors.

The fair will conclude on November 27.
