New Delhi: The mastermind of the Hyderabad blasts IM commander Yasin Bhatkal was arrested by Kolkata Police in 2008. However, he was let off by authorities after being jailed for few months as they did not know the real identity of the terrorist.

IB arrested Bhatkal in a fake currency case in 2008. Bhatkal furnished a fake voter ID card of some person in Bihar. The police cross checked the address and found it valid. Bhatkal was released from jail after some months on bail. In 2010, one of the IM operative revealed that the co-founder of the outlawed group had been arrested and released on bail.

According to information gathered by investigative agencies, Indian Mujahideen commanders Riyaz Bhatkal and Yasin Bhatkal were entrusted with providing a detailed report after surveying the crowded Dilsukhnagar area of Hyderabad. The founding members of IM were the main actors in the controversy hatched by LeT chief Hafiz Saeed.
