Even before George Alexander Louis was born on July 22, 2013, in London, genealogists were looking into its family tree and have come up with many surprises.
He has become the first royal heir to be born in 31 years after his father Prince William was born.
Royal genealogy is an interesting study for many and several genealogists embarked on the task of tracing the royal baby's lineage.
The baby's maternal ancestry is relatively simple. Kate Middleton, the baby's mother, comes from a long line of non-royals, or "commoners."
This doesn't mean they're poor. It just means that they don't have royal blood. However, baby's paternal side is where it gets interesting.
The British royal family comes from a long line of royals, but they are not all British royals.
The baby's relations will stretch from a simple Parisian actress via the Dracula princes in Romania, to even an Islamic sultan from Seville in Spain, who descended from the Muslim Prophet Mohammad, experts say.
For one the family used to be known as the Saxe-Coburg-Gotha family, before 1917 when they chose the name Windsor. "Gotha" is essentially "Goth," which traces itself to Transylvania royalty in Romania, namely, the Princes Dracula. One of these princes was the inspiration behind Bram Stoker's "Dracula."
And now for the real surprise. In a country that has a sizable Muslim population, it's no surprise that the royal baby would also be able to trace back to Prophet Mohammed.
Genealogists have traced the baby back to the queen of France, Marie de' Medici, who is a descendant of Alphonse VI of Castilla. Castilla died in 1109 and was married to Zaida, a Muslim princess who converted to Catholicism. Zaida had ancestry that reportedly went back to Prophet Mohammed.
