NEET- PG 2013: Supreme Court gives the verdict

Dailybhaskar.com

The Supreme Court has given out a verdict on NEET-PG 2013 that there will be no single medical entrance exam. The court has allowed the declaration of results for medical entrance examination conducted by private medical colleges. This verdict has been announced today i.e. May 13.

The Supreme Court has stated that NEET will be a voluntary exam, which means that medical institutes can follow common medical test only if they want to.

However, this is an interim arrangement. A final decision will now be taken in July. The Supreme Court last heard the NEET PG case on April 30.

Medical aspirants in the State will now have to wait till July 2 to know their fate with the Supreme Court.

Parents on the other hand fear this delay and do not know whether the current arrangement will hold true. They feel that the delay in results would hamper plans of the students.

Parampreet Mehta, father of a medical aspirant said, “It is very unfair that for two months students will not know if their performance in NEET will be considered for admission or not.”

About 68,000 students from the State had appeared for the NEET-UG exam held on May 5 among the seven lakh across the country.

The State government had challenged NEET in the Supreme Court, after it was made mandatory by the Medical Council of India, arguing that the State syllabus was different and students were not informed well in advance thus putting them at a disadvantage compared to their peers in other parts of the country. The court allowed the State government to conduct the medical test in Eamcet but wanted that the results be withheld till the final verdict was given.

Ritika Kanwal, who appeared for this exam said, “We have been waiting for the results for a long time now. Besides, it is very frustrating to just do nothing without any clarity.”
