Group discussions (GD) are essential part of selection procedures in business schools. Here are a few tips to crack the GD after you have cleared your CAT/MAT papers. Instant thought process and behavior in a group are the keys to success in these GDs.
Panelists assess your ability to formulate views in short time and think on your feet. If you are able to formulate ideas quick enough and swiftly validate your ideas during the discussion half the battle is won.
Normally, you would be given topics in groups of 5-15 and you have around five-ten minutes to read and decide your stand and views on the issue. Then, each group discusses respective topics for around thirty minutes.
Each candidate then gives a sum-up of the discussion in around three minutes time.
Panelists also closely observe your behavior during the discussion. Your attitude towards the group members, the strength with which you stood by your idea on the issue and whether or not you were aggressive during the discussion; all are important aspects that the panelists pay attention to.
