BMW case: Owner Vismay Shah absconds as cops present driver as culprit
Ahmedabad: Based on the information acquired from transport authorities, Vastrapur police have identified the owner of the BMW car involved in Sunday night’s mishap as Vismay Shah, son of well-known eye specialist Dr Amit Shah.
After receiving details of ownership based on the car’s registration number (CG-01-AE-9360), the police visited Dr Shah’s residence in Ambawadi to arrest Vismay but returned empty-handed.
“Dr Shah denied having any knowledge about his son. He told us that Vismay has been missing after the accident,” said NG Gosai, police sub-inspector, who went to meet the ophthalmologist on Tuesday afternoon.
Meanwhile, Premshankar Dave, father of Shivam Dave who died in the accident, rushed to Vastrapur police station along with his relatives after learning about the Dr Shah’s political connections and the possibility of his driver being projected as the accused instead of Vismay.
After reaching the police station, Dave told the media that he was heart-broken after hearing about the driver being presented as accused and not Vismay. “I came here to make sure that only real culprits are brought to justice and not any scapegoat. I want justice for my deceased son and his critically injured friend, who is still struggling for life,” said Dave, while threatening to sit on an indefinite fast at the police station if the real culprits were not captured.
However, after receiving an assurance from police inspector MR Sharma, Dave and others left for their homes. “We are not working under any pressure. We will not spare anyone involved in the case,” Sharma asserted.
Preliminary investigation has revealed that Dr Shah has two sons, Mohak and Vismay. Elder son Mohak is also a doctor and works with his father at his hospital in Ambawadi. Vismay is a builder by profession, who promoted Ashwa Infra-Con Pvt Ltd in partnership with another builder Varun Patel of NG Group.
The BMW 730Ld car was originally registered in the name of Vismay’s company.
