Ahmedabad: Congress candidate Savitaben Khath, who won from Morva Hadaf constituency in the Panchmahal district died on Friday.

The 52-year-old had sustained internal injuries after she collapsed due to brain hemorrhage on Thursday morning. She was being treated at a private hospital in Vadodara.

Savitaben had won 56886 votes from the constituency, defeating her nearest BJP rival Bijalbhai Damor by a margin of 11,289 votes in the newly-formed constituency. Tragically, she was unaware of her victory till she breathed her last.

Khant's body will be taken to Godhra where party workers will pay last respect.

With Khant's death, the Opposition party's strength in the 182-member Assembly has been reduced to 60.

Over the years, candidates contesting in the elections have either vacated at the last moment or died.
