Ahmedabad: Doctors in Ahmedabad seem to be living by the ‘play safe’ adage as the Diwali fervour sinks in. In a move that could help check the number of fatalities this season, people who fall sick would have access to ‘doctors on call’ in the city. Also, facilities such as radiology clinics, and pathology laboratories for blood tests and EGG would also remain open in the city, to ensure that the festive zeal doesn’t get pale, during the Diwali vacation spread over five days.
This initiative has been employed by Ahmedabad Family Physician Association with the support of Ahmedabad Medical Association (AMA) and Indian Medical Association. "The idea behind this initiative is to make people feel secure about their health during holidays. Minor ailments confine patients to their home and spoil their Diwali. This year, the movement gains momentum as malaria and dengue outbreak is at its peak", informed AMA President Dr Pragnesh Vachhrajani on Thursday.
There will be a central helpline number, which anybody can call to get assistance and find out doctors closest to their area. "A list of family physicians, that will remain present in the city during Diwali holidays has also been made public," added Dr Vachhrajani.
It is being said that the city has been divided into five zones and there will be a coordinator for each area. The coordinators will look after their areas and will have a list of available facilities for that area.
