Ahmedabad: Discussion at the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIMA)’s annual business festival- Confluence 2012 identified a future leader as someone who possesses skills like strategizing and governance, and has the best version of the self, as well as passion and commitment towards work.
‘Changing Winds, new paradigms for Leadership’ is this year’s theme for the international business summit which kick-started on Friday.
The conference, inaugurated by the institute’s director Samir Barua, sought to address the role of future leaders in shaping the society amid increasingly changing and challenging environment. Speaking about importance of the social media and the virtual world in making heroes and leaders, Barua referred to many successful examples like Kolaveri Di and One Pound Fish. He affirmed that one of the biggest challenges before the future leader is that of communication.
“Today’s leaders are not shinning stars but more like shooting stars. They need to have skills like strategising, governance and leadership abilities,” he said.
Ghosh spoke at length with the students, and said it is important to understand how to be the best version of one’s own self. “What brings out the best in you? It is passion and commitment to work better,” she said.
Bhattacharya identified four mega themes that are likely to shape the business world in future - competition at local and global level, emphasis on sustainability and societal engagement, vast access and speed of transmission of information and the emergence of a new customer who is young, more demanding and knowledgeable.
