Mahatma vs Gandhi: American website calls father of the nation ‘pervert’
Ahmedabad: On January 30, 1948, a Hindu fanatic Nathu Ram Godse murdered Mohan Das Karamchand Gandhi, fondly remembered as the father of the nation. He was revered with a title ‘Mahatma’ after his death. His principles of non-violence were adopted by many heroes of the history including Martin Luther King Junior. Even today, leaders like Nelson Mandela consider him his idol. However, there is a flip side too. After his death a number of controversies hounded the late ‘satyagrahi’, and are still challenging his title of the great soul. The debate that started just after his death still touches the sensibilities of the historians in India and abroad. A historical conflict has erupted, and on the two sides are people who do not want Gandhi to slip from the moral high ground and the others who want to topple him from the throne of goodness where he is sitting even sixty years after his death.
Continuing the big debate, an American website called the Mahatma a ‘pervert’ in real life. He was not alone in the list of great men who were given the insulting title. In a historical piece titled ‘Geniuses you won’t believe were perverts’, Gandhi was accused of sleeping with a ‘pile of women’.
