Modi using special ‘VIKs’ to keep watch on constituencies

Ahmedabad: If you thought it was impossible for Chief Minister Narendra Modi to keep an eye on all public and party-related issues in the state, you are wrong. With the help of a special software and the conveners of information-technology cell appointed in each constituency, Modi is able to do just that in all the 182 assembly seats.

The conveners, called Vidhansabha Information Karyakartas (VIKs) within the BJP, have to bring all the problems of the party and people in their conveners to the notice of the chief minister. Modi’s IT team has developed a special software called Karyakarta Empowerment Programme (Kemp) through which he can keep himself up-to-date on major problems in each constituency.

The VIKs have to enter the feedback received from party workers or members of the public, in subject-wise columns marked out in Kemp. This ensures that the feedback goes directly to Modi’s IT team which scrutinises the data and keeps the chief minister informed. The VIKs have been asked to work without bias and not to bother about party hierarchy in their feedbacks.

The chief minister had constituted the IT team himself and had held a four-hour meeting with it over two months back to brief it about the programme. Kemp will function till the date of voting. All members of the team have been given laptops and internet data cards so that they can access the software which is also directly linked to the social networking sites, Facebook and Twitter.

“The main purpose of the software and the team is to ensure that the chief minister is kept updated about the problems in every constituency. On the basis of this feedback, steps are taken to solve the problem and plan a poll strategy accordingly,” said a BJP leader who is part of the project.

“We have to provide all kinds of micro-level information including details of problems concerning drainage, roads, electricity and water supply and get it entered into Kemp,” he added.

“The VIKs have been given Kemp passwords so that only they can access it. Apart from providing feedback on their respective area, the VIKs have to post pictures and details of development and public-oriented works done by the party and the government on social networking sites,” he said.
