Gandhinagar: Narendra Modi, who led the BJP to a resounding victory in the just concluded assembly elections, will be sworn in as chief minister of Gujarat for the fourth time on December 26, 2012. The swearing-in ceremony is likely to take place at Sardar Patel Stadium in Ahmedabad in the presence of national-level BJP leaders, chief ministers of BJP-ruled states and thousands of his supporters.
On Friday morning, Modi drove to Raj Bhavan in Gandhinagar and submitted his resignation and that of his council of ministers to Governor Dr. Kamla. The out-going assembly was dissolved on Thursday by the Governor after the results of assembly elections were declared.
“As per the constitutional obligation, after the announcement of the results of the state assembly elections, the council of ministers and the chief minister as its head have tendered their resignations to the state Governor,” Gujarat BJP spokesman Vijay Rupani said.
“On December 25, a meeting of the newly-elected MLAs will be held to formally elect Narendra Modi as the leader of BJP legislature party,” said Rupani.
However, it is not yet clear whether Modi will take oath alone or with senior BJP leaders he may appoint as his cabinet ministers.
Sources said that as there is very little time left before the Vibrant Gujarat Global Investor Summit-2013, Modi may announce his cabinet ministers so that the government machinery can function smoothly. In 2007, he had taken oath as chief minister alone and not with his ministers. The ceremony had lasted only a few minutes.
In 2002, however, he had announced his cabinet before his swearing in ceremony which was held at the same venue — Sardar Patel Stadium. Nine ministers and six ministers of state had taken oath along with him. Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who was the prime minister at the time, had also attended the ceremony.

Source at Sardar Patel Stadium also indicated that preparations for the swearing in ceremony on December 26 have already started.
