Another dress diktat: No jeans for girls in Haryana college

Bhiwani: Girls have been barred from wearing jeans and top at a college in Bhiwani. And if anyone is found violating the dress code, the student has to pay a fine of Rs 100. Women groups have expressed anger over forced dress code. 
 
In a similar incident, Bijnor (UP) District Magistrate has asked girls not to wear black clothes.
 
The principal of Adarsh Women's College was quoted as saying in a media report, "We have banned western clothes to groom girls according to Indian culture. Jeans and short tops invite attraction and also distracts the students, so it’s not allowed. Since, the students are teenagers and can misuse molbile phones, hence we have restricted them."

The college has also banned the use of mobile phones. The National Commission for Women (NCW) has slammed the diktat and demanded action against the prinicpal. "Such diktats are uncalled for and bizarre. The government must take action against such institutes," NCW Chairperson Mamata Sharma said.
