New Delhi: In our continuing series of comparisons between cars, this time we bring closer competitors together, via the Hyundai Elantra Fluidic and the Chevrolet Cruze. Though we have previously covered sedans, but we thought of bringing a couple of cars we think would perhaps best pitch against each other. There are some details in the presentation which will perhaps help you make a decision as to which of the 2 could be your best possible option.
If the looks are to be compared of any Chevrolet, the American grown GM brand stands for a more rugged exterior for all is vehicles. Whether its a hatchback or a sedan like one, the looks of the Cruze is much more rugged, with the signature edges and for some, this has the right eye appeal too. In fact the frontier like most of its models other than the Spark entry level car, the shaping and the lines are all to familiar like the brand itself.
In terms of the new Hyundai Fluidic Elantra, the look is a complete overall from the slightly old world charm the previous edition had. Aerodynamic styling seems to be the main underlying theme of the engineers and designers of the car, who have raised the height, given the car a slim and modern chassis to sport. One might even get a feeling, that the Fluidic Elantra actualy looks like its cousin, the Verna sedan.
The interior space
The inside view of the new Fluidic elantra is virtually nothing like the older model we all knew. Total revamp is the easiest way to put it, and certianly the tech features have been generously endowed in the vehicle. Other than that, technology has been endowed in it like never before. Heated rear seats, navigation system with rear view camera, sensory key operation with push button start, hands free phone docking system, and the electroni 8-way seat adjustment feature. Seems like a page out of an ultra luxury car, but Hyundai has bought it all on a platter for buyers.
The Chevrolet Cruze on the other hand is slightly more toned down. There are some real handy features and sleek features like the navigation system, phone dock port, 3-guage instrument cluster, bluetooth music streaming, automatic rear view adjuster, and the smooth leather seat covers. Feels like the cockpit of a premium sedan, but looses out when compared to the Elantra Fluidic.
The Chevrolet Cruze gets a 2.0 litre VCDi engine with gives gives out about 166PS of power at 380Nm of torque. The Engine Management Syetem with the turbo charger is fitted in the CRDi engine, giving a power packed performance, but it really good with the fuel economy, and reduced fuel emissions. Coupled with this the 6-speed mnaul or automatic transmission system which is generally pretty breezy and allowws for wide of speeds between them, and can be be switftly changed from time to time.
On the other hand, the Elantra Fluidic gets a Nu DOHC 16-valve, 4 cylinder aluminum alloy engine which is light weight, and works great for the economy. Certianly very lively for a car of this size, the 148 HP machine is plenty of power to handle and is a certified ultra-low emission machine. Compared to the Cruze, the liveliness of the machine is certainly one step ahead, and for those looking for a speed thrill and high speed stable drives, is an obvious choice.
Price and color options
The Elantra offers 7 colors of the Fluidic sedan from a price range of Rs 12.51 lakhs to Rs 15.85 lakhs. On the other hand. The Chevrolet Cruze on the other hand offers the similar number of colors, and is priced between Rs 12.95 lakhs to Rs 16.01 lakhs. At the price level, both havent got much difference between them, but the Hyundai Elantra will always have finesse more than anything to edge it over the Cruze. Though Chevrolet like always, has made a fine car, but the Elantra is certianly a couple of years more modern, and provides the latest technology for a similar price range thus offering a better value for money.
