Chhota Rajan aide Bharat Nepali killed in ‘Ab Tak Chappan’ style
Mumbai: There are rare instances when a real life scene is inspired by reel life that too in the underworld.
Deported gangster Santosh Shetty, who has claimed to have killed his business partner Bharat Nepali, is said to have eliminated him in a typical filmi style which looks like a rip off of a climax scene from Nana Patekar’s Ab Tak Chappan, which was released in 2004.
Bharat Nepali was once the trusted lieutenant of Chhota Rajan and was killed by Shetty last November in Pattaya, Thailand.
Sources said the climax of Ab Tak Chappan which is inspired on the life of an encounter specialist and Bharat Nepali's killing has definite similarities.
As per sources from Mumbai Crime Branch, Shetty in his statements to cops, said he called Nepali at an isolated beach side villa in Pattaya, where the two went into high spirits and around late midnight Shetty shot dead Nepali and got his mutilated body disposed into deep Thai seas.
The meeting and the elimination seems to match the climax scene of the film where actor Nana Patekar who plays an encounter specialist goes to meet a dreaded gangster Zameer played by actor Prasad Purandhare in Pattaya.
In the script there is a brief discussion on a private beach side villa on a glass of wine and all of sudden before the gangster could retaliate, the ex cop kills him.
A senior IPS official added, "There have been instances in past where film scenes are inspired on the modus operandi of gangsters but in this case it is surprisingly opposite".
According to sources in the Mumbai Police, the Thai police allowed Santosh Shetty’s deportation only because they were unaware of his involvement in Nepali’s death but back in Mumbai in the custody, Shetty is said to have spell the beans of Nepali’s killing since he suspected to have betrayed him.
In December last year, there were reports that Nepali had been shot dead outside a busy market in Bangkok by the underworld, but the Mumbai Police had not confirmed his death. There were reports that Santosh Shetty and Vijay Shetty were behind the murder.
