Mumbai: The iconic Bandra-Worli Sea Link will turn pink at 7 pm today as part of breast cancer awareness campaign (Oct 5-12) which aims to increase the awareness and importance of early detection of the ailment. Famous columnist and novelist Shobhaa De tweets, "Mumbai's iconic Sea Link will be bathed in pink at 7pm. What an amazing global initiative to draw much needed attention to Breast Cancer."

The breast campaign cancer awareness campaign is active in over 70 countries including India, and today Mumbai's sea link will join the league of several international landmarks that have been illuminated during the breast awareness month of October. These landmarks include the Louvre Museum (Paris, France), Burj Al-Arab (Dubai, UAE), Empire State Building (New York, USA), Sydney Opera House (Sydney, Australia) amongst many others.

This comes after Tata Memorial Hospital’s Women’s Cancer Initiative (WCI) and Pune-based support group Breast Friends (BF) organised a two-day Indian Breast Cancer Survivors Conference in Pune on October 6 and 7.

The event was organized in a bid to create awareness about breast cancer and was attended by over 150 cancer survivors from Mumbai, Pune, Nashik and other parts of the country. The conference provided women practical information on ways to cope with concerns during and after breast cancer treatment. Deveika Bhojwani, a breast cancer survivor, said, "Medical care advancement is helping women get through cancer diagnosis.”
