Mumbai: It came as a surprise and shock for a 26-year old woman when she spotted a mobile phone recording her moves in the changing room of a diagnostic centre. The incident happened in Mulund (West) at around 9.30 pm on Wednesday.
The woman visited the diagnostic centre for an X-ray on Wednesday where she was asked by lab technician to change her clothes before the X-ray. She was given a patient's dress to change and shown the changing room which was fitted with video recorder in mobile phone.
"In the changing room, I noticed a white plastic bag with a hole, hanging on a rod. I checked it out of curiosity and found a black box with a corresponding hole. I opened the box and was shocked to see a mobile phone in video mode which had recorded me," the TOI quoted the woman as saying.
The woman’s husband had accompanied her to the diagnostic centre who too was shocked over this incident and called police. After initial inquiry by her husband, they came to know that the mobile phone belonged to lab technician who was identified as one Ansar Shaikh.
When her husband tried to confront Ansar Shaikh, he threatened him with a knife and fled from the diagnostic centre.
The police collected information about Ansar Shaikh, who hails from Nashik. The police have lodged a complaint against Ansar Shaikh under IPC’s sections 292 (obscene), 506 (II) (criminal intimidation), 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) and under section 66 (E) (violation of privacy) of the IT Act.
Senior inspector Jivajirao Jadhav said police have seized Shaikh's mobile and it has been sent to the forensic science laboratory to retrieve any past recordings using a similar modus operandi.
According to Mulund police, "The mobile was placed in a mobile box and kept hanging in a plastic carry bag. We checked the mobile's records and found it was Shaikh who set it in video mode. The mobile camera not only recorded him while changing the mode, but also when he made the holes in the carry bag and the box. He then placed the mobile in it and even checked if it was placed properly.”
When contacted, the director of the police said he has extended his cooperation to police and have provided detailed information of the accused, including his addresses in Mumbai and Nashik.
