Bhopal:Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Thursday ‘extended all support’ to National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) for repairing the dilapidated roads in the state.

Addressing the NHAI officials, the CM also promised to take up the issue with the Union government in case there was any further delay.

Chouhan reiterated that the state government was committed to improve the condition of National Highways passing through Madhya Pradesh.

He held detailed discussions with the officials on improving NHs that passed through the state. The officers of the NHAI assured him that repair work of NHs in the state would be completed by January-end.

Besides this, the pointed out that they required the Union government's sanction for construction of bridges on some roads. Besides this, cooperation was also sought in environment-related sanctions from the State and Union governments and distribution of compensation.

Chouhan assured to extend them all cooperation at every level for the speedy completion of the work. The CM also laid special emphasis on quality of construction and repair works.

He expressed concern over long delay in construction which escalated costs due to extension of the contracts.

He also suggested that the NHAI Authority should take initiative to construct those roads afresh, whose condition did not improve even after repairs. Chouhan said that bad roads caused immense difficulties to people. Transport and business were badly hit.

“This is not an issue of state alone, but also a matter of nation's prestige,” said the CM.
