Bhopal: Senior Congress leader Digvijay Singh has asked for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the conversion of 15 acres revenue land to freehold in the posh TT Nagar locality. The same deal had seen government doing a volte face in the court two days ago.

The former CM also demanded adequate protection to the whistleblower advocate turned RTI-activist Devendra Mishra claiming that  he faced  threat to his life ,same as slain RTI activists Shahla Masood.

Singh made these demands in a letter to Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan. The letter also took a potshot at Lokayukta for refusing to probe the matter on the ground that it was a decision taken at the cabinet level.

“A CBI probe should be ordered into the entire gamut of things that led to conversion of revenue land to freehold and subsequent to its cancellation after the matter came to the High Court. All those involved in the illegal deal must be punished,”  he said.

Mishra, through a PIL lodged in the MP High Court, too had demanded a CBI probe or constitution of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) on the grounds that the state exchequer had incurred a loss of Rs. 5200-crore in the entire transaction.

Digvijay Singh said that ruling Shivraj Singh Chouhan government will be dislodged by people in the 2013 Madhya Pradesh Assembly elections for "falling short" on commitments.

In a chat with reporters at his residence today, the senior Congress leader, while complementing Chouhan for completing seven years at the helm, said many promises made by the chief minister haven’t  being fulfilled yet.

"If Chouhan had made around 4000 announcements, 3500 have not been implemented," he said, adding the condition of roads in Madhya Pradesh was almost the same as it was in 2003.

"The state has also failed to fulfill its promise to provide round-the-clock electricity to villagers," he alleged. "Its because of this that people in the state are waiting for the 2013 Assembly elections as it would give them a chance to throw BJP out of power," he added.
