Bhopal: The Madhya Pradesh High Court has granted permission of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to interrogate Malegaon blast accused Pragya Thakur in Bhopal jail here on Thursday.

The permission, however, is subject to the condition that the investigating agency will have to allow a person of her confidence to witness the interrogation proceedings.

The bench of Justice Rakesh Saxena and Justice S C Sinho, however, made it clear in the order that the person who comes to witness the accused would not be allowed to go near to the interrogation team.

The person instead would be kept at such a distance that he would only witness the interrogation but not allowed to listen anything, said the Court addressing the concern of the accused. Pragya Thakur had moved against an April 12 order of a Special Court in Bhopal that allowed the NIA to interrogate her without allowing anyone from her side to witness the interrogation proceedings.

Her counsel, former advocate general R N Singh submitted the court to allow one person to witness the interrogation on the plea that failing which the interrogators would exert unnecessary force and even did not rule out physical assault. The counsel for the NIA Radhe Lal Gupta, however, denied saying the contentions of the appellant was unfound and had no base.

After taking into accounts the concerns of the appellant, the court directed the NIA to allow a person of her choice to witnesses the interrogation from such a distance or in a glass frame that the person should not be allowed to hear the proceedings.
