Bhopal: With map in Braille in hands, visually challenged guided cars and drivers followed instructions. Denizens of Bhopal enjoyed this inspiring spectacle as Blind Challenge Car Rally 2012 was flagged off on Sunday.
Though most of the guides were not trained, their friends who participated in such rallies earlier told them how to go about it. The competition involved reaching the destinations in the prescribed time. Marshals were deployed at every five to seven km to ensure the contestants stay on track.
The rally was organised under the joint aegis of Arushi, Mittal Institute of Technology and Sahyog Micro Finance in association with State Bank of India (SBI), Central Bank of India (CBI), Axis Bank, Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Manav Sangrahalya and MP Tourism.
It was flagged off from SBI, local head office, Hoshangabad Road at 9.30 am. The rally covered around 30 km distance within the Bhopal municipal corporation limits.
Competitors finishing with minimum penalty points were declared winners. Team of Sanjeev Shrivastava and Premdas Hariyale bagged first place while the team of Mahendra Manwani and Munnalal Kushwaha was declared second.
