Zee extortion case effect? Four journalists jailed for extortion
Ujjain/Bhopal: Nearly a week after two Zee editors were arrested in national capital in the alleged Rs 100 crore Jindal extortion case, a local court in Ujjain on Wednesday sentenced four scribes and a woman to rigorous imprisonment (RI) ranging from three to seven years on charges of loot and extortion.
The scribes sentenced by the court include Sachin Goyal, Anil Tiwari, Abhay Tirvar and Munna Kishwah and Mona.
In 2006, a government contractor Dulichand Chaudhary had lodged a complaint with Mahakal police station against these four media men and a cameraman Dinesh Solanki. Solanki, however, was acquitted by the court of the charges.
Chaudhary in his complaint alleged that the four scribes sent Mona to him and caught on camera in compromising situation in a sting operation. Later, the scribes contacted him and demanded money.
Chaudhary alleged that the journalists asked him to meet. When he reached to meet them in Ujjain, they snatched Rs 26,800 cash, gold chain, gold ring and his mobile phone. He intimated the police, which probed the matter.
The media men used their contacts to influence the probe but the police managed to bring them to book.
At the time of incident, Sachin Goyal and Anil Tiwari were associated with a national channel while Abhay Tirvar owned a local daily of Ujjain. Munna Kushwah was employed with an evening daily published from Bhopal.
Chaudhary's counsel Surendra Chaturvedi told DNA that the session's court pronouncing verdict in the case on Wednesday, sentenced Abhay Tirvar to 7 year , Munna Kushwah and Mona to 5 year, Anil Tiwari and Sachin Goyal to 3 year rigrous imprisonment (RI) and acquitted cameraperson Dinesh Sonalki.
