Bike-borne robbers flee with R 9.5 lakh

Indore: Unidentified motorcycle-borne youths opened fire at a person and robbed him of Rs 9.5 lakh in Sanwer area on Wednesday afternoon. The victim chased the accused but they managed to escape.


Sudhakar Thakrey (45), a resident of Scheme No. 78 works as a junior officer at the office of Soya factory situated in Mandi premises of Sanwer.


He had gone along with cashier Kamrani on a motorcycle to withdraw amount from State Bank of India situated at a distance of around 1 km from Mandi. The amount was withdrawn for payment of Soya seeds from traders and farmers.


Eyewitness Prahlad Singh, a trader from nearby village Siada told DNA, "When they were returning to Mandi around 12.55 pm, two motorbike-borne youths aged around 25 intercepted Sudhakar and Kamrani in a deserted location opposite Bheru Pachhad and without warning, opened fire at them. The bullet hit Sudhakar in his back. The miscreants attacked them and tried to snatch the bag containing cash."


Injured Sudhakar refused to part with the bag and struggled with the armed robbers. The miscreant took out a pistol and threatened to shoot him in the chest if he doesn't hand over the bag. The robbers soon fled the spot after snatching the bag, Singh added.


Robbers passed through the same route to Mandi. When some traders and farmers noticed the victims shouting for help, they also gave a chase to the accused but they disappeared at an intersection on the main road. Sudhakar was rushed to a private hospital in Indore and was undergoing surgery in the evening.


Sanwer SDOP Anil Patidar told DNA that the victims used to go to bank daily for depositing or withdrawing money and the robbers may have conducted a recce to loot them.


A case of loot and attempt to murder was registered and police are trying to get clue about the robbers. This route remains deserted even in day time but cops are rarely seen patrolling here.
