Indore: Rising cases of cyber crime have compelled the Indore police to start a cyber cell in the city.
The office of the cell will be set up in the newly-constructed building above the Palasia police station.
The nod for the same was given after an inspection drive by cyber cell inspector general Rajendra Mishra.
It is said that the cyber cell will begin functioning this month itself after the recruitment of the staff.
According to inspector general Sanjay Rana, the cyber cell will comprise 10 staff members of inspector and sub-inspector level.
He also said that the cell would be zonal office of the Indore and the Ujjain division.
An officer of inspector range will head the cell in the initial phase and will be replaced by a DSP rank officer later.
Logistics for the same have already begun arriving from the cyber cell headquarters, which is in Bhopal.
Talking about the need of a cyber cell in the city, Rana said that it was done in the wake of rising internet-related crimes in the city. The fact that terrorists recently used a cyber café in the city to send a terror mail gave the required impetus to the need of such cell,
Prior to this, DSP Jitendra Singh had been handling the cases related to cyber crime in the city.
The Indore police receive as many as 100 cyber-crime complaints per year.
