Indore: Vehicle registration in a row

Indore: Registration of nearly 5000 vehicles is stuck due to insistence by the RTO to increase fee for issuing registration cards on one hand and the agents and automobile dealers refusing to pay the hiked amount, on the other.

The rule that makes it mandatory to send registration cards via post was introduced last year but the RTO staff persisted with manual delivery of the cards in return for a 'convenience fee'.

However, of late the RTO staff started asking agents and automobile dealers to pay Rs 250 more in order to get the cards issued.

The agents and automobile dealers, in turn, are refusing to oblige the RTO. They have already taken money from vehicles owners for registration. And the vehicle owners are also not willing to pay anything extra, having already paid money to the agents.

The RTO staff has made it clear that registration cards won't be issued unless extra charge is paid. The automobile dealers are unrelenting and are planning to hit back.

A prominent dealer having authorized agency of Honda told DNA that the matter would be brought to the notice of transport commissioner if it is not solved.

Dealers argue that if the rule of sending registration cards was in practice, why it's being implemented now, all of a sudden. RTO agent Harsh Palrecha said that with the fee hike agents are having tough time in explaining the delay in issuance of registration cards to customers.

RTO Indore Sanjay Soni was not available for comment. A senior transport officer clarified that rule of sending registration cards is not new but added that at times it might take a few extra days.
