Mhow/Indore: A professor of veterinary college in Mhow was arrested for allegedly making indecent advances at a girl student.
A post-graduate girl student of College of veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry, Mhow, has levelled sexual harassment charges against professor R K Bagherwal following which he was transferred to Jabalpur institute.
Bagherwal was arrested under Section 354 of IPC for assault or use of criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty, Kishanganj police station in-charge Raghu Prasad told DNA.
A complaint was also lodged against him under the SC/ST Act. The matter is being forwarded to the SC/ST police station, he said. A two-member investigative team from the Jabalpur College had visited Mhow institute to conduct the probe into allegation by the female student of the MVSc course on Thursday.
According to Dr U K Garg, dean of the Mhow college, the student had complained to him in writing on November 29. She had accused Dr Bagherwal of misbehaving with her in his cabin on November 25. Dr Garg claimed he had forwarded the complaint to Jabalpur following which the team comprising Dr B C Sarkhel and Dr B S Gehlot, recorded statements of the complainant and the defendant on Wednesday.
Dr Garg said the investigation was conducted independently according to norms. Dr Bagherwal told DNA, "The charges against me are baseless. I have given my statement to the inquiry committee. It's a conspiracy to spoil my reputation because of my brilliant academic career and because a national symposium is about to be conducted on our campus in January in which I will be very active."
