Most speedy trial? Death sentence for rape, murder within 35 days
Indore: Dhar district court on Wednesday sentenced the accused of rape and murder of a four-year-old girl to death within record 35 days of the shocking incident.
Additional sessions Judge Avinash Khare pronounced the verdict against 20 year- old Sunil, a resident of Talaipura Karoli village for abducting, raping and murdering the girl of same village. On October 31 this year around 2 pm, the minor girl was playing outside his house when Sunil took her on the pretext of taking her to his elder brother Laxman and sister in-law Paro. The grandmother of the girl had stopped Sunil from taking her but she went.
When the child did not return till evening, a case of abduction was registered in Manawar police station.
On November 1, police arrested Sunil. During investigation, he revealed that he had taken the child to a sugarcane farm where he raped her. When the child screamed, the accused killed her by strangulating. The accused returned house after covering the slain child with her clothes on the spot.
The charge sheet of the crime was produced on November 9 before Judicial Magistrate First Class in Manawar court which committed the case for upper court in 17 days.
The charges were framed on 21st day. On November 27, 29 and 30, total 11 prosecution witnesses recorded their statements before the statement of the accused. Defence counsel produced his evidence on December 1. Final arguments were heard on December 4. On December 5, the court found the charges against the accused true and convicted him.
