Petrol pumps to be open for 8 hrs from today
Indore: A large number of vehicle owners faced troubles as petrol pumps remained closed till 10 am as a mark of protest on the issue of dealers' commission in the city on Monday.
However, rift among petrol pump owners was evident as several petrol pumps including outlets owned by the police were open at 7 am.
Petrol pump owners have decided to shut their establishments from October 15 after 7 pm if oil marketing companies failed to meet their demand to increase commission.
Secretary of Indore Petrol Dealers Association Sudhir Eran said that all three oil companies of India -- Indian Oil, Bharat Petroleum and Hindustan Petroleum --have been requested to increase commission on selling their petroleum products as it has become difficult to bear expenses of operating petrol pumps on present rate of commission.
Eran admitted that some of the petrol pumps were open early but he claimed that a majority of dealers are following the protest call.
He said that it would be an eight- hour shift for petrol pump owners with one hour lunch break from 2 to 3 pm till demand for commission is accepted.
"A five-member Apurva Chandra committee was comprised to prepare a report on the issue of increasing commission amount. Though the committee has submitted its report, no action was taken on it" he added.
There are around 125 petrol pumps in Indore district while the state has around 4000 outlets. The present protest is being observed on the call of all India association of petrol pump owners.
