Work on Metro plan begins in Madhya Pradesh
Indore: Ambitious project of developing metro rail system in Indore is expected to take off soon as the Madhya Pradesh government has begun work after getting promise of central aid.
Union Minister of State for Urban Development Saugat Rai announced in the Upper House of Parliament that respective state governments have started with DPR for Indore, Nagpur and Kozhikode. He said that this exercise is being done for 19 cities having a population of above 20 lakhs as per people census 2011.
About the financing of the project, officials said 50 per cent of the fund will be financed by the agencies like ADB and JBIC, 20 per cent of the fund will come from the Union government, 20 per cent from the state government and remaining 10 per cent will be shared by the local municipal body.
Earlier, Chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan had entrusted the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) to prepare a detailed project report (DPR) for Indore and Bhopal metro rail network. The DMRC will submit DPR in next six months. The cost of preparing DPR, which would amount to Rs 6 crore, will be shared by state and the Centre in 20:80 ratio.
The first phase of 32.16km metro rail network in Indore will cost Rs 8,500 crore. Both the cities will have three metro corridors with a station at the interval of every kilometre.
DMRC official claims that around 4 lakh of people will use metro rail every day in both the cities and it will generate Rs 44 lakh revenue in each city per day.
"It will reduce traffic on road and control sound and air pollution," Mangu Singh from DMRC said, adding that it will also save commuters' time and bring down the number of accidents.
Mayor Krishnamurari Moghe, who was present in the meeting said Indore will have three corridors; Annapurna to Sukhliya (8.9 km) with eight stations, Super Corridor MR 10 to Ring Road (11.79 km) with 11 stations and Niranjanpura to Bhawarkuwa (11.47 km) with 11 stations. In total, Indore will have 32.16 km long metro track with around 32 stations.
