At this stage, Can BJP afford to lose ‘tainted’ Nitin Gadkari?

New Delhi: The top brass of Bharatiya Janata Party seem divided in their approach toward Yashwant Sinha who created a furor on Tuesday by demanding party president Nitin Gadkari’s resignation. It is believed that BJP cannot afford to lose Nitin Gadkari at this moment. However, it is contradictory to what Ramjethmalani had said on November 8 that "Bharatiya Janata Party will not suffer if Nitin Gadkari quits as the party president.”

Earlier also, Ram Jethmalani, who spearheaded the public revolt against Gadkari, had made known his unhappiness with the party leadership ignoring his advice that Gadkari must resign in the wake of allegations of dubious transactions involving his company.

Sinha's demand brings alive once again the campaign initiated by BJP Rajya Sabha MP Ram Jethmalani and his son Mahesh for the party chief's resignation in the wake of reports of alleged dubious financing of Purti Sugar and Power Group.

However, BJP disciplinary committee chairman OP Kohli said any action against Yashwant Singh or any other MP could only be initiated by party parliamentary board as envisaged by party constitution.

"The BJP Constitution states clearly that if any act of indiscipline has been carried out by an MP, only parliamentary board can decide," BJP disciplinary committee chairman OP Kohli was quoted as saying to a TV news channel.

Urging Yashwant Sinha to reconsider his stand on Gadkari issue, senior BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad said Sinha should have avoided the issue in public domain.
