Ahmedabad: The European Union has ended the informal boycott of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi that was enforced following the 2002 riots.

According to reports, the Gujarat CM held meetings with EU envoys in Delhi, assuring them that the 2002 riots would not be repeated. The Gujarat CM also has made the assurance to German ambassador in Delhi on January 7.

According to a report carried by the Indian Express, the meeting proved significant for Modi, who is seeking for a wider role in national politics, as it also ended the informal boycott by the EU since the riots of 2002. This was the first meeting between European envoy and Modi since the riots, nearly 11 years ago.
