Chennai: The Indian Premier League (IPL) may be over, but the controversies shrouding the deep-pocketed league are far from over. Tamil Nadu police is on a multi-crore gambling trail after it arrested a bookie in connection with betting in IPL matches in Chennai recently.

Mail Today reported that Rahul Tibrewala, 28, was arrested on Sunday from a park in Anna Nagar area after an aggrieved punter tipped the Chennai police off about his whereabouts.

In judicial custody, the revelations made by Tibrewala have sent TN police in a tizzy with his links being established with biggies in Mumbai and North India.

Tibrewala, a resident of Rajasthan, was arrested with Rs 17,000 cash, two mobile phones and notebooks while he was taking bets from four people, who managed to escape cops' clutches.

It is reported that during the investigations, he revealed the name of a Mumbai-based man, Rajesh, who is the kingpin of the entire betting syndicate.

There had been rumours that 15 bookies from Delhi had landed in Chennai, but police found nothing after conducting raids in hotels and lodges. Police are in hot pursuit of bookie syndicates running in Mumbai and Jaipur.
