Girls condemn the recent Delhi rape case outside Maharani’s College on Saturday
Jaipur: Seeing the rising incidents of eve-teasing, the authorities at University Maharani’s College is planning to prohibit the entry of outsiders on its premises.
As per the proposal, anyone, except the college students, will have to register his name at the entry gate.
Besides, the security inside the campus will also be beefed up. Though earlier too, the outside students were not allowed to enter the college campus, but the rule was not strictly followed. According to the officials of Maharani’s College, presently, there are around 8,000 girls enrolled in different courses at the college.
Incidents of eve-teasing like boys passing lewd comments on girls are common within and outside the college premises.
So in order to provide proper safety to the girls inside the college, the authorities have decided to prohibit the entry of ‘unwanted elements’ who are often seen sitting in the parking area and in canteens.
“Safety of girls is important inside the college, particularly these days as crimes are on the rise. Anybody whether a parent, a friend, a boy or a student - will only be allowed to enter the campus after proper verification, as it is done in private colleges like ICG. We are planning to deploy extra guards inside the campus in the coming months,” said professor Vidya Jain, principal, University Maharani’s College. Citing an old incident, a college teacher said preferring anonymity, “Recently, a boy and a girl were found sitting inside a car on the campus. We found something fishy. Later when we called their parents and narrated the situation, they supported their children instead of scolding him for their misconduct. Now we are planning to ban outsiders’ entry on college campus.”
