FIR against Ashis Nandy, JLF organiser for former's 'Dalit corruption' remarks

Jaipur: Jaipur Literature Festival came face-to-face with the India law on Saturday evening as organizer Sanjay Roy and renowned sociologist Ashis Nandy were booked under the SC/ST Act for latter’s remarks on SC/ST/OBCs being involved in most of the corruption.

“Most of the people who are doing corruption are from the Other Backward Classes, Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes," Mr Nandy infamously remarked during a panel discussion on Saturday morning.

The FIR was registered in Jaaipur under Section 506 and 3(1) of the SC/ST Atrocity Act.

His statement drew impromptu disapproval of the audience, which forced Mr Nandy to issue a clarification on his statement. Saying that he had been misinterpreted, Ashis Nandy later claimed that he wanted to say that all poor people got caught in corruption, while the rich ran got away.

But his clarifications had failed to pacify BSP chief Mayawati, who demanded immediate arrest of the sociologist.
