Jaipur: In the wake of continuous protests against B2 Bypass, Jaipur Development Authority is looking for a solution. As a remedy, JDA is likely to revive an old project of elevated road proposed under bus rapid transit system.

Around 1.5-km elevated road project from Shipra Path crossing to Dwarkadas Garden was proposed as part of a BRTS project under Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM). JDA had revised the report of the project and forwarded it to the Union ministry of urban development for approval in June 2010.

The ministry of urban development did not sanction the project in the wake of budget lapses. But, the protests of residents once again forced JDA to renew efforts to get a sanction. In a recent development, the authority has decided to send a reminder to the central government to approve the report as soon as possible.

“We would send a reminder for granting sanction to the project,” said a senior official with the project wing of the authority. The elevated road will start from Dwarkadas Garden and finish at Shipra Path crossing.

The heavy traffic will not enter the residential colonies and pass through the elevated road to connect with New Sanganer Road. This would pacify the residents opposing the B2 bypass.

However, the efforts of reviving the old project will take time to yield results. “The revised project report demanded `660 crore for the BRTS project, including `60 crore for the elevated road. The Centre has not provided financial assistance in the current JNNURM plan (2007-12). Therefore, we expect approval of the flyover in the new plan,” said an engineer.

The agitators are also aware of this fact. “It is not possible to get an approval from the central government in near future. If they somehow get it, then the road will take two years for construction,” said Abhay Purohit, leader of agitating residents.
