Jaipur: Is former general of Indian Army and staunch supporter of Anna Hazare, VK Singh, looking to contest Parliamentary elections from Jhunjhunu constituency? Singh’s frequent visits to the area have fuelled speculations of him getting battle-ready for polls in Jhunjhunu.
“There is a lot of talk these over VK Singh contesting Lok Sabha polls from Jhunjhunu, which is Congress stalwart and sitting MP Seesh Ram Ola’s bastion. He has been coming quite frequently in the area over last couple of months. Besides he has immense respect among families with army background,” said a local BJP leader seeking anonymity.
If local leaders are to believed, Singh contesting elections could be a possibility as the electorate in this area largely comprises of army men. “Most families have at least one member in army; maximum martyrs belong to this belt. Singh has naturally become a respected figure in the area,” a local Congress leader said. Captain Mohd Ayub Khan was also from the Army and was elected as MP and then elevated to a ministerial berth at Union government during Rajeev Gandhi regime, he added.
The anger against UPA government also seems to be sitting MP Seesh Ram Ola’s undoing.
