Jaipur: In public grievance hearings, conducted by district collectors on implementation of the Public Service Guarantee Act, it has surfaced that government officers of the Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) and the power department are most negligent.

The district collector of Jaipur, Naveen Mahajan came to know about several such cases of negligence on the part of government officers during a hearing on grievances in the district’s panchayat samitis.

After receiving the feedback from panchayat samitis of Amer and Govind Garh, he was surprised to note the figures of the application received under the Public Service Guarantee Act.

In the Amer panchayat’s 48 gram samitis, only 66 applications were received and registered under the Act in the last two and half months.

Mahajan accepted that the officers are not taking the public work seriously. He further said that though he was satisfied with the performance in urban areas, the situation at panchayat level was far from being good.

Most of the complaints received by the collector are from PHED and the power department.

“The officers of PHED and the power department do not take public complaints seriously. This is what I have noticed in four blocks. I have ordered a chargesheet against three officers, including one executive engineer and two assistant engineers, for the lapses,” Jaipur collector Mahajan said.

The district collector was dissatisfied with the way the officials have been dealing with public and expressed shock that simple problems like replacement of transformer, repair of handpumps or rectification of domestic water connection went unheard by the officials of these two departments.

“They must register the complaints,” added Mahajan.
