In what seems like an attempt by file sharing websites to avoid a fate similar to that of MegaUpload, FileSonic, a popular cyberlocker, has disabled its sharing functionality.

Users can now avail the service only to “upload and retrieve files you have uploaded personally”.

Also, the site no longer pays users whose files get downloaded by other people.

Reddit, too, has reportedly begun deleting files and even accounts according to a report by ZDNet.

These measures have come after FBI arrested seven individuals, and two corporations- Megaupload Limited and Vestor Limited- on charges of being part of a $175 Million US Criminal Copyright Conspiracy.

US multi-millionaire and Megaupload founder Kim Schmitz 'Dotcom' was arrested on Friday for Internet copyright theft and copyright violations, according to media reports.

In the dramatic arrest scene, dozens of New Zealand police backed by helicopters swarmed the barricaded mansion of Megaupload founder Kim Dotcom to arrest him on Friday.

The report also says that the police had to cut their way through electronic locks to reach to Dotcom, who was hiding there with his shotgun.

The police said two firearms and several luxury cars were removed from Dotcom’s mansion, that include a Rolls Royce, a pink Cadillac and a Mercedes.
