International Olympic Committee questions Kalmadi role in IOA
New Delhi: International Olympic Committee (IOC) has asked its Indian Counterpart, Indian Olympic Association (IOA) to accept international observers, to ensure fair conduct in the upcoming Presidential elections in Association.
According to a news report in ndtv.com, IOC reprimanded IOA for failing to finalize a poll date and clarifying the role of Suresh Kalmadi in the Association.
The war of words between the two organization intensified after IOA's acting President VK Malhotra asked IOC president Jacques Rogge, if the terms of international observers implies for India alone.
In another letter, Malhotra questioned the necessity of sending an international observer. The IOC replied that it was necessary considering the confusion surrounding Suresh Kalmadi's status.
Some heavy words and series of letter have been exchanged within the past few days. In another letter, Malhotra expressed his surprise over the authoritative and intrusive manner of the IOC.
The IOC questioned the internal working of the Indian Olympic Association. It said that the elections should be conducted in accordance with the Olympic charter.
The IOC had granted a week time to IOA to decide and accept international observers failing which IOC Executive Board would be compelled to take action.
International Olympic Committee is apparently not satisfied with the status, power and role of Suresh Kalmadi in the Olympic Association.
