PV Sindhu loses semis; wins hearts, bronze

Guangzhou: India’s latest badminton sensation Pusarla Venkata Sindhu went down to Thailand’s Ratchanok Intanon 21-10, 21-13 in the semi-finals of Badminton World Championships here on Saturday, in the process becoming only the third Indian to win a medal at the coveted event.
Sindhu, who qualified for semis by defeating former world number one Shixian Wang of China on Friday, follows Prakash Padukone, and the now separated pair of won Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa, in the list of Indians who have won a medal at World Championships. 
The 18-year old won the first point of the match, but was soon overpowered by Inaton, who reeled off a series of powerful smashes to gallop to 11-4 lead soon. 
The Indian, ranked 12 in the world, tried to put up strong defence, but committed a lot of unforced errors to go down 21-10 in the first game. 
Sindhu started the second game by a couple of unforced errors to hand the advantage to Inaton, and the Thai rushed to 11-5 lead, before unleashing some dazzling smashes to wrap up the game 21-13 soon after.
Inaton will now meet top-seed Xuerui Li from China in the finals.
